Award Applications

MTNA annually presents the following awards, which recognize excellence in music teaching, research and other significant contributions to music education.

MarySue Harris Studio Teacher Fellowship Award once again is open to all MTNA members age 26 or younger. The award is presented to the candidate who most clearly demonstrates a strong commitment to the music teaching profession. The program was established to help music teachers develop and enhance their newly established studios. 

The Benjamin Whitten Collegiate Chapter of the Year Award is given to the MTNA Collegiate Chapter that demonstrates excellence in its chapter activities. 

Teacher of the Year Award is presented to the candidate who most clearly demonstrates a strong commitment to the music teaching profession. 

State Affiliate of the Year Award recognizes the state Music Teachers Association that makes the most significant contribution to the music teaching profession through participation in MTNA national programs and additional programs established within their state. 

Local Association of the Year Award recognizes the local Music Teachers Association that makes the most significant contribution to the music teaching profession through participation in MTNA national programs and additional programs established within their state and local area.

National Piano Foundation RMM Teacher Scholarship is available, in part to a generous grant from the NAMM Foundation. A limited number of scholarships from $500 to $1,000 are available to MTNA member piano teachers who are interested in and committed to learning more about Recreational Music Making (RMM), and developing an RMM program for their studio and/or their community. These scholarships are to be used for travel, lodging, membership and registration fees and other costs associated with attending MTNA’s 2015 “Pedagogy Saturday RMM Track” event. 

Piano Technicians Guild Scholarships are financial-assistance grants, provided by the Piano Technicians Guild and the Piano Technicians Guild Foundation, presented to a nationally certified MTNA member for furthering one’s teaching skills through continued education and/or performance study.
