Pianist Dominic Cheli is an artist-citizen whose career spans performance, education, composition and direction. Praised as an “inspired keyboardist” (artsfuse) with playing that is “spontaneous yet perfect” (Symphony Magazine), he made his Walt Disney Concert Hall debut with the Colburn Orchestra, where he “transfixed the audience” (LA Times), and his Carnegie Hall recital debut in 2019. His recordings include Liszt/Schubert (Naxos) and Erwin Schulhoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 (Delos) with James Conlon.
A St. Louis native, Cheli has performed with the San Diego Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony and Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, among others. He has appeared at the Ravinia Festival and Mostly Mozart Festival and will debut at Alice Tully Hall and return to Carnegie Hall.
As Head of Tonebase Piano, Cheli directs content strategy and production for 25,000+ subscribers, democratizing high-level music education. He is also a member of the Darshan Trio, which collaborates with Street Symphony to bring music to underserved communities.
Cheli studied at the Manhattan School of Music, Yale University, and the Colburn School. A Yamaha Artist and Colburn faculty member, he enjoys cooking and training for Ironman triathlons in his spare time.
