Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the value of music study and music making to society.

Founded in 1876, MTNA is the oldest professional association for music teachers in the United States. Today, MTNA supports a nationwide network of 16,000 independent and collegiate music educators through professional development, leadership opportunities, webinars and continuing education, publications, events, and lifelong learning—ensuring music remains a transformative force in our world.

MTNA members contribute meaningfully to the musical ecosystem, empowering students to see music not merely as a performance art but as a tool for connection and transformation.

MTNA’s commitment extends beyond professional development. Through the MTNA Foundation Fund, the organization supports young artist development, the creation of new music, teacher enrichment, and community outreach. Through the National Certification Program, MTNA establishes and recognizes professional standards for music teachers and supports educators in their continued growth.
