Teaching Students With Special Needs

Special Learners—Learning In Partnership

Scott Price, chair

The Special Learner’s —Learning in Partnership track is designed to be a day-long celebration of what our special learners have to teach us about how they learn. Everyone in the learning community will find something of interest whether they are beginning work with special learners or have shared the joy of music making with special learners for many years. Scott Price, Beth Bauer, Carla Carnegie, Melissa Martiros, Derek Polischuk and Connie Wible will share 60+ years of combined experience in helping special learners achieve success. Learn the practical “do’s and don’ts” of getting the learning process started and see video demonstrations of real students in real lessons as they navigate their own learning process. Experience how music therapy partnerships assist students and teachers in achieving success. Learn how to create sensory-friendly events including a live recital by special learners from the local area. You will have a chance to sign up for semi-private consulting sessions with the presenters to discuss the challenges you face in your teaching. You will also have a chance to be included in the day during a moderated “open-mic” session where you can share your best teaching techniques or “teach-niques” that work with your special learners.
